Romford Rifle & Pistol Club
History

Behind the badge

Romford Rifle and Pistol Club logo

The spread eagle at the top of the crest is a reference to the Essex Regiment's capture of the Salamanca Eagle - the club had its roots in the Romford and Hornchurch Home Guard attached to the regiment.

The wavy lines represent the River Thames that flows by the club's original ranges on Rainham Marshes, and nowadays forms the southern boundary of the London Borough of Havering where the club is situated. The Ring on the waves is a reference to "Have-Ring" and the supposed derivation of the name Havering.

The crown at the bottom refers to the ancient status of the area as a Royal Liberty.
