Romford Rifle and Pistol Club
Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my application take to process?

The Club will do as much as they can to speed things up. The most usual delay is caused by slow response from referees. Once the references are received your membership will be put before the next monthly Committee meeting.

How much does membership cost?

For 2008:
Membership: £ 150.00 p.a.
Juniors: £ 25.00 p.a.
New adult member's joining fee: £ 40.00

Do I need a Firearms Certificate?

No. As a Club member you are allowed to use the Club's own firearms. You need to have been a Full Member (not Probationary) of a Rifle Club for six months, and be aged over 17, before you can apply to the Police for a Firearms Certificate (FAC), a procedure that is subject to the most rigorous checking. There is a charge for the FAC.

I'm still at school. Does everything on your membership form apply to me?

No. We are currently working on a new version of the form for Junior members. In the meantime put your school details as your employer, and make sure one of your referees is your Form Tutor or Head of Year or equivalent. Ignore Part C unless you have already been a member of another Club.

Where are the Club ranges?

The ranges are in Hornchurch in the London Borough of Havering (formerly Essex). You will be given full details of location and access once your membership has been approved.

What facilities does the Club have?

The Club has 25yd, 50m and 100yd ranges for smallbore rifle shooting. See pictures. All the firing points are under cover, lit and heated. We also have a 10m indoor range for air rifle and pistol (.177). There is a Clubhouse on site.

What firearms can I use at the Club?

Club members shoot smallbore rifle (.22), air pistol and air rifle (.177), sporting rifle (.22) - prone, kneeling and standing.

What does rimfire rifle on the membership form mean?

'Rimfire' refers to the construction of the brass cartridge into which a lead bullet is fitted. The primer - which ignites the propellant that forces the bullet down the barrel of a .22 rifle at a muzzle energy of between 930-980 fps - is manufactured into the base of the cartridge. rather than as a percussion cap that is used in larger calibres. All .22 firearms used by the club are rimfire.

Are there any special regulations for air rifles and pistols?

Air rifles and pistols must be .177 calibre. Air rifles must have a muzzle energy of no more than 12fps, air pistols, 6 fps.
